  1. His book was published the year my first child was born and this video was published on my birthday the following year. I probably look into it more because I connected with John after purchasing his book. I wanted mentorship and was looking for guidance on my writing so I asked what to do if I knew the melody and had words but didn't know how to write sheet music or play instruments. This made me insecure and he told me "you're already writing the music Rachel". I asked if I should take this "…as a kick up the bum?" (after speaking for a while) and he responded – "Take it as a gentle shove"! I've been writing since I was 14 years old. I'm now 35 and no longer write. I just freestyle songs when I feel inspired.. They're good with potential but I don't know guys.. what do you think? Should I take it more seriously? My writing idols are Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Shawn from Boyz II Men, Babyface, Diane Warren, Kandi Burress and more. I have reoccuring dreams of Alicia Keys and Faith Evans singing my stuff :') but I don't really know what to do..

  2. I loooooooove John Braheny! ❤️ Bought his book twice and every time it magically dissapeared.🤔

  3. So true. After contemplating my works, I realized how much polishing I needed to do My best songs were rewritten many, many times befoe I stopped on my final draft exausted and seeing double. but it was soo worth it in the end as I noticed a much better version of what I really wanted to express from the word go. I compared drafts and was so glad I didn't run with the first take… that I took the time to care about it all. There is a strange process of life building evolvement that takes place when writing a song. Trust me, you can't microwave a pie from scratch and expect it to be delicious…it's just not gonna happen.

  4. Miss my professor and his book tells us all about how to write a song from start to finish thanks JB!!

  5. I'm watching this to improve! Thanks and Taxi is a great idea. I'll be submitting towards the end of this year.

  6. Ego is the kiss of death for a songwriter. Well, I mean, of course you have to have a good strong ego, but when your ego parks in front of your face you crash the bus.
