Minimalist Home Tour | My Progress After a Year of Decluttering

When I first started my channel, I received loads of requests for a house tour. It’s been a year, and I finally feel “ready” to show you around my home! As noted, there are some people out there who may see this as a minimalist home, and there are surely many others who will not. I have been practicing minimalism for several years, I have decluttered my home many times over, and I am satisfied enough with my progress to call this a minimalist home—even if this may not meet everyone’s definition of what a minimalist home looks like.

In order to give you a realistic sense of what my house looks like on a day-to-day basis, I decided not to tidy up and left things as they were. Our drying dishes and slow cooker are out, our free weights and my tripod case are stashed under our bed (where they have come to live), and those with cat allergies should not look too closely at the duvet—but that’s real life.

I hope you like it!

  1. You know those apartments where the renter moves out and doesn’t take all of her stuff? Yeah, I don’t want a house that looks like that and I don’t want it to sound like I’m in an echo chamber. I’m not about a lot of clutter but I do want cozy.

  2. This is what I'm going for. I don't want only one spoon, one bowl, a futon mattress on the floor, and twelve items to wear in total. Your space has just enough. It's essentialism. I love it.

Quote from an article I read recently

"I wonder how many purchases we make in life because we believe the purchase alone will bring about the change we desire:

The exercise bike in the corner we thought would make us fit.
The juicer in the pantry we thought would make us eat healthy.
The cookbook in the cupboard we thought would make us lose weight.
The boat in the driveway we thought would bring our family closer together.
The hobby we thought we’d pursue.
The clothes we thought we’d wear.
The books we thought we’d read.
The side hustle we thought would make us rich.
There is a fine line I’m trying to walk here. Planners are not bad, exercise bikes are not unnecessary, and not every juicer goes unused.

Sometimes these items are valuable tools. But if we fall into the trap of believing buying something new is going to magically transform us, we are mistaken.

Life change is more difficult than that. It most often begins on the inside, not at a store."

  4. I think your house is beautiful and calming. I would love to see an updated house tour 🙂

  5. Your cat is soooooo cute!!!!! 😻😻😻 Also love your home…I wish my progress could be like this!

  6. You've done a wonderful job! I totally get your version of a minimalist home. I see no clutter and the items that are there are so neat and it doesn't look like your skrimping to live.

  7. Today I finally had my bedroom painted the same dark grey as yours, I loved it since I saw it, though I also felt a bit scared it wouldn't work…But it did!I have all white furniture/doors/windows, and the contrast is beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration!

  8. I love your house, but I also love the calm sound of your voice. It isn’t high pitched or overly excited like the MANY other minimalist videos on here. 🥰😊

  9. Your perspective on minimalism is inspiring! I enjoy your sense of humor and practical approach to lifestyle and priorities and appreciate how you are reenforcing the tenets I am currently focusing on. Thank you for inspiring videos and your take on how to make it a reality. 😁

  10. Minimalism is a journey, not a destination. Love your home. It’s so homey and of course your kitty!!!

  11. @vested interests I live your channel and videos, but I always find myself admiring your floors. Are they concrete?

  12. Beautiful decluttered space. I like that the cat, with her simple 2 bowls, is also
    living a minimalist lifestyle.

  13. in almost all minimalists Cats are there.. means Cats are so valuable and really add value to life!
