No More Gray Homes! | Gray Is Out – What Color Comes Next?

In this video we are going to talk about why gray is no longer as trendy as it once was, and what color is taking it’s place instead. Gray is a lovely neutral color, but it tends to fit into styles that are not as popular as it once was.

This video idea came to me after seeing my friend James’ video over on the @thepaintpeople channel. James is a paint expert and did a video that went more in depth room by room and I recommend it!

  1. Stop teying to be so trendy and you won't run into these issues. ????

  2. Gray is my neutral of choice. i hate beige. not my entire house but most of the rooms are gray. when we moved in our house was a light creamy yellow. it went well in the kitchen but was blah everywhere else. My granite countertops and creamy yellow almost tuscan backsplash cried out for something bold so i did a darker color i pulled from the counter top. our bathroom is the same since it has the same color in 1 of the accent tiles. our bedroom and powder room and upstairs spare bathroom is an aqua color, my hubby loves the beach so i let him chose those. the spare bathroom has a peacock motif and our room i use teal white and black/gray are the colors we use. the family room is the other room that is a different color, we pulled from the red of the floor with a lighter maroon color, we have a very bright house so we can get away with darker bolder colors. anyway, my formal living room is the one where i love the grey, i haven't finished decorating it yet but i'm keeping the grey and using teal and white as my furniture colors so it has some color but I won't add too much grey furniture wise since the walls are grey. I do have PTSD from the 90's beige, i just don't like it. I also have a 2yo so beige will be so dirty so fast. I want my formal living room to be sophisticated, i want it to be the adult room. my son can do whatever to the family room, i don't care but my formal living room i want that to be a place where if someone comes over we have a toy free, sticky food free space.

  3. Design is personal. I am a designer, & I love gray. I just built a custom home, & knowing gray is on its way out, I still chose grey as my neutral throughout my home. Repose gray in on my walls & it has different undertones throughout the house depending on the lighting in each room. I did however incorporated other wouldn’t change a thing. Ten years from now gray will be back. Basically, do what makes you happy!

  4. Nick,
Just curious, have you made any changes in the room where you record these videos?

  5. I've always disliked grey. Soft white, hunter green, and wood tones are my fav.

  6. There was a moment in the 70's where grey, black, and chrome was a thing. Especially with the studio 54 set.

  7. Gray isn't a trend imo, it's a reaction against all the sallow and stuffy boomer beige we've grown up with. Gray is stylish and truly neutral, and it will always be so in accents or in backdrops. All of any one color is either lacking or overwhelming if it isn't your favorite, no matter what color it is.

I heard cool-toned lighting is more energizing and interesting for younger people and men, though, so I wonder if beige is something people grow into when they are older?

  8. I love gray, white, and usually add an accent color, and change the accent color on a whim.
I just cant stand beige, brown. I guess I will just be out of style, well at least until gray makes it circle again in a few years.

  9. I win! I never got rid of my natural wood tones, warm creamy whites, and brown sofa. I'm looking forward to being able to by things 'off the shelf' that don't clash with what I have because they are too coolish and grey.

  10. Great isn’t out for me! Enjoy your takes. I’m still loving grey to ground warmer colored furnishings. ????

  11. Thank god. Those AWFUL flipped houses with grey floors, grey walls, grey EVERYTHING were the most soul-draining, lifeless places to ever exist.
