Sequence of operation of the 80% AFUE efficient gas furnace Goodman

A description of the sequences that the 80% AFUE gas furnace goes through upon startup.
This video is part of the heating and cooling series of training videos made to accompany my websites: www.graycoolingman.com and www.grayfurnaceman.com to pass on what I have learned in many years of service and repair. If you have suggestions or comments they are welcome.
If you are a homeowner looking to repair your own appliance, understand that the voltages can be lethal, the fuels are highly flammable and high pressures are used. Know your limits.

  1. Can you please make a video with a multimeter checking all the components in the furnace…..
    Thank you 🙏

  2. Thank you so much for making this video……you should be a instructor… the school I am attending to get my G2 …. Teaches nothing.. god bless you 🙏…..

  3. Because of your outline of the process, I was able to troubleshoot my pressure switch issue. I discovered it was not lighting, so I inspected the switch and discovered there was debris in it. I made sure it was shut off, then held the pin in for two sec to reset it. Buttoned everything back up tuned on the breaker and it was running like a champ. Thank you sir!

  4. So i may have not complete understood what you were saying but you said that when the combustion blower is on and pressure switch is closed the unit will no longer move forward that is incorrect the unit will operate correctly like i said could have been a misunderstanding

  5. Some of your terminology during you presentation is not fully correct may want to edit your videos just an opinion

  6. I WENT to school for HVAC in 2004, and I'm RUSTY AS HELL, but with your videos and my BOOKS that I STILL OWN FROM SCHOOL, I have been re-training myself and do some work for neighbors in my hood. You are a very Knowledgeable cat!!! Keep showing these cats how to make this money and how to actually LEARN how to fix furnaces. The IFC board makes things easy with the blink codes, depending on the model!! THANK YOU!!!!!

  7. Take it from one who knows. Don't buy anything from goodman. I have a goodman gas pack that was installed in 2012. The capacitor on the inducer motor went out last year. I called the local goodman dealer in November of last year and several more times since then. They're some of the most ill mannered, insulting people I've ever met. I called goodman manufacturing and got about the same treatment. The inducer motor has to have a 2 microfarad 370 volt capacitor in order to work. I was going to replace it myself but you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a 2 µF 370 volt capacitor. Every supply place around here has a 3 µF but not a 2 µF and a 3 µF won't work. I finally wound up calling the local Trane dealer to fix the thing. But at the rate I was going if I had continued running all over the state trying to find the right capacitor I would have had more money tied up in gas than the repair costed.

  8. My furnace from the day it was installed (9 years ago) starts the House fan, then the inducer then the igniter then the gas.. How can I change the sequence so the squirrel cage does not start spinning til the Flames are on? Thing blows cold air until the flames come on…

  9. I'm taking HVAC course and we had the same exact furnace in the class room which we were working on. The inducer fan would run and turn off every 30 seconds. When we disconnected the wires going to the limit switch it would run but ignition would not come on. What you think the issue is there? thanx

  10. How common is it to have a limit on an inducer? I seen one yesterday and that's the first time seeing one. If they trip, is it like a high limit where the blower runs to try and close it. Will the inducer keep running to try and reset it? New to this field.

  11. first off love the videos, very helpful! Have a 1975 bryant furnace that has pilot light lit , but burners will not fire. I'm thinking pressure switch, but should I look at inducer motor first? Tia
