  1. This really hit home for me. I am in my 70s, and still a practicing attorney. Most of my friends also work in what "back in the day" were traditionally male fields. Doctors, lawyers, college professors, corporate executives, even some retired military. Not to whine, but often back then we were the only women in the room, not always well treated, and always always on guard. Like, for example, when I was asked during a job interview with 3 middle aged white male attorneys with a prestigious law firm what kind of birth control I was using. Taking risks with fashion would have just made us more vulnerable and given "them" more ammunition. Fast forward 45 years, and I no longer feel that vulnerability. But many of my female friends with similar histories find my interest in fashion kind of perplexing. Not in a mean way, but just in a way that makes me feel a little self-conscious. I am thinking to myself…we are still feminists, we don't all have to dress like Betty Friedan. No disrespect to Betty Friedan, whom I admire greatly. My point is just that we have more freedom now, as well we should. Your video just reinforces my thoughts on this subject; I fought for this, and now I'm going to enjoy it in my own way. In make-up, maybe with a bold lip, wearing perfume, and sometimes dressed in fashion a little on the edge.

  2. Erin, you GO, girl! You are so beautiful, amazing, fun, helpful, caring, cool, elegant, and so much more. I love that you are embracing – and sharing! — all your different selves and encouraging us all to do the same. I have learned so much from you. Thank you for all you do!

  3. That’s why I love the clothes swapping community that I am a part of!

Not only can I try out new things risk free aka it doesn’t cost me anything, and the community of women just empower each other, when we take risks.

  4. I did that back in my 20s with a bold lip like my grandma had always done a bold red lip…and then as I aged, I will be 57 next month…in my 30s I dropped my bold lip and have been wearing a “my lips” but better shade which makes me feel safe…but I did love that bold lip and it made me happy and I did get some stares as well as compliments…maybe I will try one again here and there and I will get a tulle skirt….with polka dots! Thanks for making me re-think the times people said things that kind of rained on my joy-style that made me happy! If not now? When!!!??? ❤️💋💄

  5. You are inspirational. However sometimes it’s one step forward 2 steps back. I recently purchased a cropped Army jacket-an original. Big shoulders-meant for a man! The first time I wore it a young guy came up to me in a bar and said “Your jacket is awesome “ I was bowled over tbh. I’ve since thought about wearing a slightly cropped top underneath or a sheer one . I’m 58. Watch this space-I just might!

  6. I love this advice so much, especially thrift shopping for the bigger risks. I used to have a purse in college I loved that was very bohemian, beaded, different colored patchwork, very bold. One of my best friends commented, "That is a very loud purse" to which I said, "I"m sorry…I cannot hear you over the awesomeness of my purse!" Style is a place to take risks and find what you love. Thank you so much for sharing

  7. You are right, Erin, about the joy of trying new ideas in fashion. It’s a process to learn to be happy while people close to me are nitpicking what I wear. The discussion reminds me to enjoy the fashion risks I see others take as well as my own. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Thank you so much for sharing all this with us ♥️ muchas gracias querida Erin, encantada con tus consejos! Me das fuerzas y me animas a tomar el coraje necesario para lograr tanta confianza ❤️🌹👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
