I live in a rental in suburbia and have tried now for 3 years to grow.. anything lol I can’t seem to ever get past the seedling stage. I didn’t have the money for pots or soil. I can’t grow anything in ground. So this year I finally found pallets for free and built some small raised beds and I got my first GreenStalk for Mother’s Day. Wish me luck! this was so inspiring!! ???? ????
Everybody calls me crazy for crammin'. But Kevin does it in his raised beds and pots and grow bags. Me, I have a limited amount of space and only have 3 of 4×2 raised bed grow bags right now. I may get 2 or 3 metal beds for next season to add more plants and so my plants are not as close together because I feel I could be overcrowding. I really want to try my hand at sweet corn but that could potentially take up 1/3 or more of my yard which is also covered by a massive maple tree.
Making macreme planters have made me able to fit about 16 to 18 plants in my tiny 2×8 ft balcony. Earlier i had half the number of plants in the same space it felt congested, cluttered and disorganized. I've made the macreme planters myself but had to buy the s hooks so got it all that done for less than abt $15.
Edit: i can fit about 8 or 9 more if i drilled holes and mounted stands into walls…i hang the others from the overhanging grills of the balcony

I live on the second floor of an apartment building. Cramming is my mantra. Got permission from my roommates to attach some boxes to our railing since i'm out of floor space
Is there anything other than grow bags that would work (similar to)? I have a couple small raised beds and put my tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets, but I would like to be able to put more in my limited space.
Am I correct that 1, 2, and 5 plastics are safe to grow in?
Yes perfect timing! I currently live in a SE facing apartment in MD with a 4×9 foot balcony. My balcony is full of grow bags for cucumbers, tomatoes, tomatillo, zucchini, mini squashes and melons, etc., as well as a vertical structure of herbs and of strawberries. I also turned my second bedroom into my garden room with an indoor planter table next to my big window – that’s where I’m growing leafy greens and some cooler temperature root veggies.
Still finding that I’m running out of space and need to get more crafty with it, so this is perfect timing ????

Like you, we've got a bit more space than when we started but learning to plant and plan for density is still the best tip I can offer to anyone setting up a new garden!

I have a 4 square patio porch thing that I pack full of fabric pots and such. Gotta watch your foot placement but I like growing stuff!
