Batik Process – Artisans at Work – Color Island

Batik art has been around for over 2000 years, and is especially popular and developed to a sophisticated level in Java Island, Indonesia.

It is an art made through a many stage process which involves drawing a design in hot wax then hand-dying. This process repeated for every color, then dipping in boiling water to removing the wax.

UNESCO (2009): Indonesian Batik is a Preserved Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
