Hey guys! I’m Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. New videos every Saturday! Today is part 2 of making over my childhood home and I’m tackling the living room! You won’t believe how dark and cramped this living room was before this makeover. My goal was to make it the coziest, stylish and bright living room for my parents.

  1. I absolutely love your makeovers and the transformation of this space must certainly rank as one of your best. Your parents are blessed to have such a gifted daughter!

  2. I love the work graham does and am I the only one who saw the drawer rolling out as he worked lol

  3. Loved the entry! Can't wait.
    Love your parents ????????‍♀️????
    O o o! Love it????????‍♀️

  4. I generally love Alexandra's makeovers and this series of her parents home started off great with the entryway transformation. It really lifts the spirit and completely changed the aesthetic from dark and cramped to open and welcoming…a delight for the senses. I love the pink door, the new wall, the accents and accessories. This living room makeover is great as well with a few exceptions. I love the color palette, the furnishings and the accessories. However, the arrangement just doesn't make sense to me. Looking into the room, it seems awkward to have to go deep into the room, then turn around to sit on the sofa. And, how can you watch TV comfortably from the sofa if you have to keep your head turned at an angle to view the TV? I did something similar in my narrow living room once and trust me, it just doesn't work. Also I agree with @hazeld7216 about the accessories in front of the TV screen.

  5. I love this. Our home is old and when we bought it, it already had some quirky details that are making it lean towards similar style like your parents' home (and we happen to love it), so I am getting so much inspiration from you! Of course, we don't have big budget and can't update things in one go like this, but with time I hope it will look just as cosy as this living room 🙂

  6. I liked a lot my only observation is that the placement of the sofa is odd to watch TV.

  7. Love your choice of furnishings. Your entry runner is stunning. Would like to see more of the colors from the runner in the living room for more cohesiveness and less white!

  8. The space ;looks so refreshing. I think orienting the sofa along the entry hallway will feel more cohesive. As well, I would paint the mirror frame the same pink as the entry door, to tie the rooms together.

  9. Loving this series and this room looks beautiful, fresh and bright. Can you please give us an update on what your parents think of the sconces now that they have lived there for a while. I'm not sure I'd like to be seeing open bulbs beside my tv. I feel like the lights would always make me see spots.

  10. In the beginning of the first episode I was thinking how cool it was to have that half-wall (in the entryway) so you could put a couch against it – but then you removed the baby wall. And now I'm having a hard time understanding the living room. It's GORGEOUS, but not functional. Does the TV swivel?

  11. Beautiful room make over. It looks very comfortable, bright and cheery ????

  12. Love this room, but I think I would put the sofa across from the TV, with the lounge side closer to the window, and use the chairs on either side of the mantel facing the center of the room. The way the couch is now, only one person can comfortably watch TV, but that's just me – function over form/design ????

  13. Great transformation of the livingroom. The white accessories disappear against the white mantel and white wall. You can't appreciate the textures. The mirror would also look better in a wood tone. Your mom is going so excited to see the house.
