STRIPPING & SCRAPING LATEX PAINT from furniture – Refinishing a mid century chest of drawers

I’m removing all the paint from this late 1960s walnut and ash dresser I bought on FB marketplace. It was a crazy amount of work but SO worth the time I spent just to see all the different variations and tones of the gorgeous woodgrain hiding underneath the paint.

I kept the drawer faces, leg assembly, top and outer sides all natural, using only Odie’s Oil finish, and the inner part and frame was stained to match the natural wood colour on the drawers and top.

I tried to pick out as many of the white flecks of paint as I could, and camouflaged what I couldn’t get out. I’m sure some flecks still remain but with open pore wood like walnut, it’s often difficult to remove it all, without using a grain filler and stain.

Overall, I’m very happy with how this turned out and I’m excited to share it with you. 🙂
