This delicious and easy banana pudding recipe is made completely from scratch. I do not use instant pudding for this recipe. The vanilla pudding made for this recipe consist of milk, eggs, vanilla extract, cornstarch, sugar, and a little bit of salt. I use ripe bananas and cut them into 1/4 inch slices. Unlike most banana pudding recipes, I don't just use vanilla wafers. I also use chessman cookies. Also, I make a homemade whipped cream which sets this amazing dessert over the top!

Hi Rosie! I have been looking for a banana recipe that uses whole eggs (not separated), and I am glad I found it. However, I don't like using cornstarch for homemade pudding unless I absolutely have to (meaning if that is all I had on hand). Anyway, my question is, can I use 1/3 cup of flour instead? Do you prefer the whip cream topping of your banana pudding to the meringue topping that I've seen on a lot of other recipes? The meringue topping is very pretty (not sure if it tastes better), but if you think yours is about the same taste then I'm good with that.

Being a country girl, whipped cream is a new take, as are the chessmen cookies. Some folks make a meringue on top instead of whipped cream. If I were to use whipped cream, I would use clear, prepared, unflavored gelatin for a firmer, more textured cream. It is to die for. Again, you knock it out the park as usual.

Hi. Have you ever tried making banana pudding and using sliced strawberries instead of bananas? The recipe basically stays the same, you still use vanilla wafers and the pudding mixture of course. It is really good. The flavor from the strawberries is just great. One last question, why do you use corn starch in the recipe when you can get the thickening with egg yolks?
