Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark π

What?? Blue berries?? That means am on a hotter zone than you are… amazing really. Am on the southern coast of Cyprus island and here blue berries can't make it during summer, only white berries.
Mark, you did better than me with pumpkins this year; down here in Melbourne I only got 2 flowers that set fruit (Jap variety) from 4 vines. They did seem to take ages to get going after transplanting the plantlets, this year I cut the bottom out of an 8inch pot and then buried it so that a couple of inches of rim were above the ground so that they would hold a good drink when watered but they didn't do very well. Oh well the chilies did well. I tried some of that tape as I have mynah birds that dig up seedlings scratching for grubs (I presume) but all they did was sit on the trellis and admire what I had done to pretty up their garden! I need a laser tracking device….
cheers mate… dont forget to drink eh… we are getting old yea… dont get heat stroke mate ..nway.. good job… been dormant for 1 week now.. must get back to the garden soon.. phewww..

I just want to ask Mark have you ever been bitten by an spider π· in Australia π¦πΊ π’
I'm so glad you recovered from that case of elephatitis!
Wow 30 pumpkins. You missed asparagus season? I kept expecting a snake. Don't like working in tall underbrush and overgrowth. How do you use a string trimmer in shorts? My legs would be bleeding. You are one tough cookie. Now that looks much much better. Job well done. See you next week.
I say, βginger is the root of lifeβ. Sweet potatoes as well. Neglect can reap rewards when placed correctly!
Its interesting to see the shiny tap on the blueberries, never seen that. I know people who use old CD's tied to plants and trees to scare away birds and that seems to work too. Very interesting. My haul of potted tomatoes is getting destroyed by birds but they don't seem to care what we put there to stop them. Also doesn't stop the cats lol. Do have a lovely big lizard out there though keeping the bugs under control. Strangely, they don't seem to care for our chillies though so hopefully I'll have one harvest survive the QLD wildlife.
Did the same thing to our three beds last weekend, but no where near this scale! Also had overgrown pumpkin, sweet potato and grass/weeds. Feels so good to have it tidied up
Give that man a beer !! Good finds Mark.
Suffering from success!
I have a corner like that in my garden. You are motivating me to clean it up. I love your channel and I think you are great. Greetings from Germany ππ
Yeah, that's like my garden right now.
I use a scythe though, cause it's a bit smaller π
