Sneak Peek – Unbelievable Mediterranean Renovation in Sydney, Australia – House 15

It’s been waaaaay too long between drinks, so we’re thrilled to be back with the BIG REVEAL of our latest project – House 15!

Located in sunny Sydney, this three-storey home already had some Mediterranean vibes with original arched windows, wrought iron balustrade and beautiful water views. But the floor plan was anything but beautiful – it was more like a rabbit warren with no open plan, odd-shaped rooms, dark pockets, different floor heights and different styles in each room.

The brief? To fix the floor plan and make it a haven for intimate family living while also being an inviting space to work, entertain and accommodate the occasional overseas visitor.

Sounds straight-forward? Renovating rarely is, and this is definitely our most challenging project EVER (and we’re not just saying that! 😉)

One of my favorite Studio Ghibli Films and Food. You can do whatever you want with this ramen bowl, because it’s magic (:

Recipe(2 servings):

-2 packs of your favorite Ramen
-1 Green Onion
-4 slices of Ham
-1 Egg

1. Hard or soft boil the egg. Slice the green onions and cut the ham in half. for more taste, simply fry the ham until golden brown.

2. Prepare ramen noodles in a bowl or cook them in a pot. If your ramen comes with a dry ramen spice packet, open it up and put it inside. Prepare it according to the package directions or however you like to eat it.

4. Top with half of the egg, green onion, and both pieces of ham. Enjoy immediately so the noodles don’t get soggy!

So for years, I do mix canned tuna with hard-boiled eggs, some shredded cheese, and mayo, then just simply spread it on toast (sometimes I put cheese on top and bake until cheese is melted)

In this video I made tuna spread with simple ranch dressing

Spread
3 cans of tuna in water
2-3 hard-boiled eggs
Dan-O’s Seasoning

Ranch
1/2 cup mayo
1/4 cup sour cream
1/2 tsp each dried dill, parsley, onion powder, garlic powder
Black pepper
1 tbsp half&half or buttermilk

LA family turns unused garage into small home Oasis (before/after)

They were running out of space in their two bedroom bungalow for a family of four, a home office and frequent family visitors so Gennifer Leong-Alvarado and Pastor Alvarado decided to copy their neighbors who had recently torn down their garage to replace it with a backyard home.

They called on Rebecca Rudolph and Catherine Johnson of Design, Bitches – the same architects who had made over their neighbors yard – and soon their tiny garage and cement driveway was being torn apart to make way for a spacious ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) and a backyard they would really use.

Gennifer explains, “I never went behind my garage ever because it was kind of like a dead zone.” Rebecca says this is common. “What we’ve figured out over time is that people will go 10 feet out from their living space, so if we’d just converted the garage, they would have stayed in this section of the yard, so by putting it in the back, they’ll use the whole thing.”

Today, in the former “dead zone” sits their backyard cottage that serves as Pastor’s office, as well as a home for their parents (who are frequent visitors). Their old, cement driveway is now a grass soccer field used constantly by their 10-year-old. And now, all the space between their home and the tiny home is used; there’s a swimming pool, a fire pit, a covered outdoor dining area, a hammock and a boardwalk that connects the two spaces and gives the space a vacation-type feel.

Lo Mein Noodles

Ingredients

Sauce:
1/4 cup (60 ml) chicken stock
3 tablespoons (45 ml) oyster sauce
1 tablespoon (15 ml) soy sauce
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon sesame oil

Noodles:
3 tablespoons (45 ml) vegetable oil
4 teaspoons ginger, thin julienne
2 teaspoons (10 g) garlic, minced
1/2 pound (250 g) chicken breast or thigh, thin bite-sized slices
2 to 3 cups fresh egg noodles, such as pancit
1/2 carrot, julienned
1/4 pound (125 g) baby bok choy, bottoms removed, cut on bias
3 scallions, cut into 1/2-inch bias pieces

Directions

For the sauce: Stir together the chicken stock, oyster sauce, soy sauce, cornstarch and sesame oil. Set aside.

For the noodles: Heat a pan to high and add the oil. Once you see wisps of white smoke, add the ginger and garlic and cook until light brown and fragrant, about 20 seconds. Stir in the chicken and cook until medium, about 1 minute.

Add the noodles, carrots and bok choy to the pan and cook until tender, about 1 minute.
Stir the sauce, pour into the pan and incorporate all ingredients well.

Continue to cook until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce starts to bubble and thicken. Transfer to a serving platter, garnish with the scallions and serve immediately.

East Hampton Clam Chowder

Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients

12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, divided
2 cups chopped yellow onions (2 onions)
2 cups medium-diced celery (4 stalks)
2 cups medium-diced carrots (6 carrots)
4 cups peeled medium-diced boiling potatoes (8 potatoes)
1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme leaves (1/2 teaspoon dried)
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 quart (4 cups) clam juice
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
3 cups chopped fresh chowder clams (1 1/2 pounds shucked clams)

Directions

Melt 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) of the butter in a large heavy-bottomed stockpot. Add the onions and cook over medium-low heat for 10 minutes, or until translucent. Add the celery, carrots, potatoes, thyme, salt, and pepper and saute for 10 more minutes. Add the clam juice, bring to a boil, and simmer, uncovered, until the vegetables are tender, about 20 minutes.

In a small pot, melt the remaining 8 tablespoons of butter and whisk in the flour. Cook over very low heat for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Whisk in a cup of the hot broth and then pour this mixture back into the cooked vegetables. Simmer for a few minutes until the broth is thickened.

Add the milk and clams and heat gently for a few minutes to cook the clams. Taste for salt and pepper. Serve hot.

When cleaning the shower head with CLR Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover, soak the shower head in equal parts of CLR Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover and warm water. Remove the shower head and submerge it in the solution for no longer than 2 minutes using an old toothbrush on the face of the shower head after it has soaked to assist in removing the mineral buildup then rinse promptly and thoroughly with cold water. Repeat at full strength if necessary, rinsing thoroughly after each application. If you can’t remove the shower head fill a bowl with the solution and hold the bowl with the shower head submerged for two minutes and then brush the face.
